Vajra Yoga in Pennsylvania

Yuliya Gandy

Yuliya_Gandy_Bio_picI began practicing yoga about 10 years ago and I have been teaching yoga for the last 3 years.

I am a certified teacher of Language Arts (English) by Pennsylvania Department of Education.

I have always been very active and liked to experiment with different forms of fitness. I started taking ballet classes when I was 6 and switched later on to modern choreography. I was a part of the amateur choreography group during my high school years. Then, during my University years, I switched to aerobics and then tried everything that the fitness industry had to offer: step aerobics, pilates, Zumba, spin classes, you name it. When a friend recommended me to try a yoga class at Kyiv Yoga School, I was curious but I never thought that it would become such an important part of my life. Attracted initially by the physical aspect of yoga I soon was pleasantly surprised to discover a deep philosophy and everyday wisdom intertwined in it. I was very lucky to meet such an experienced and caring yoga teacher as Anatoliy Pakhomov. Inspired by his down to earth approach to practice and the lucidity of his method, I offered to translate his book into English, so that English speaking practitioners could reap the benefits of this easy to grasp, safe method of yoga practice based upon anatomy and biomechanics.

I have completed 300 hours of teachers’ training with Vajra Yoga School (Kyiv, Ukraine) and 100 hours with River Yoga Studio in New Hope (PA).

There is no greater pleasure for me, as a yoga teacher, to see how practicing yoga helps my students to lead a more fulfilling and conscious life. I always remember what I heard at my first yoga class – “Yoga practice starts when we fold the mat after the yoga class”. When the needs of our physical body are taken care of on the mat, we are more likely to practice kindness and compassion and make this world a better place to live in.
